The Ninja 250 runs about $4k CDN so about $3600 USD before taxes while the CBR125 runs about $3400 CDN before taxes so about $3K USD new, plus with the Honda new rider program, you get helmut, jacket, gloves and boots thrown in! Keep in mind though, at 12hp the 125 is a dull bike- Eden (at all of 10) has ridden it and thinks its a wet noodle!

Thanks for the info. Three grand sounds very reasonable for this bike. I'm sure the bike is a bit of a bore given the power output. But we have race bikes to make up for that, right? After taking a six year break from the street I've realized I don't really like the street that much anymore. I don't need a street bike to have all kinds of power and whiz bang features. This looks like it would be a great city bike to get back and forth to work on and run some errands on my days off. Those are the only things I need from a street bike at the moment.

Sounds like it might be a fun F2 bike also.

Don't forget that you can also get the race kit for the CBR125 that includes Mimic fiberglass bodywork, an Elka shock (adjustable for preload and rebound damping), an Arrow slip-on muffler, frame sliders, and a race stand for $1500. I spoke with a Canadian fellow at the demo race last year at Mid-Ohio (he pitted next to Matt Rehm) who said that the race kit was pretty much necessary, at least to run them in Canada.

The fella you're talking about is Lee Kuhn jr. He races for Toolee Motorsports- the same race team as Eden. Lee rode that CBR in the inaugural CBR Cup in the Parts Canada Superbike series. He placed 3rd in the series. He's racing in the SV cup series this season and another team mate- Leah Vignale of Quebec is campaigning the Toolee CBR in this years CBR cup. Another of Eden's friends- Steven Nickerson, (not with Toolee) is presently leading the CBR cup series. When he's legally allowed to race on the big tracks in Canada, Eden may do the series as well, or do the 125gp series. The nice thing about the CBR series is that its National, so he races all over Canada, where as the 125gp series is only regional.

Yeah....that's him. I understand that he's "the only sponsored pocket bike rider in North America", that his CBR was painted with "$1000/gal Lamborghini Orange", that "the painter did a terrible job and (he) should have done it himself", that "the tires on his pocket bike cost more than an entire Polini pocket bike",blah blah blah.

If you happen to pit next to him, don't set your helmet down on his table for a minute while you try and sit down and catch your breath after being on the track in the 90 degree weather.

Oh yeah, and if one of his friends t-bones you at the end of the race, be prepared to be harassed when you get back from the medical center.

Ass.

I remembered that too, although I was going to omit that part. :|

The old man is worse than the kid but they're definitely cut from the same cloth.

A couple of folks came up to me when we were packing-up to share their experiences with Lee, his father, and with the family of the kid who hit me after the flag. Apparently they have quite a reputation.

Just sayin'....

We watched the finals for the Honda CBR125R Challenge at the Parts Canada Superbike Championship this past weekend in Ontario. It was pretty much all kids, but it looked like a blast. The race was really close too. Bodhi Edie won the race and Stephen Nickerson won the championship. Leah Vignale crashed pretty bad and was taken off on a back board - we could not tell if he was conscious. Tonto, we were looking for you guys. We thought maybe we would run into you there. After the races I got to talk to some people about the CBR and sat on a few. I love it. It would make a great little commuter and Im really interested in the race kit that is available. Its only $1500 CA, so for a new bike plus the race kit, it is approximately $4500 CA. The Honda rep said that even though it is a 125, it is just as quick as the Ninja 250 since it is 100 lbs lighter. I am seriously looking into importing it. I have done some research and have already downloaded the necessary forms. I just need to get a letter from Honda stating the safety and emissions are the same as the US. I am not clear on import fees, though. Importing a vehicle from the US to Canada is duty free! I highly doubt its the same to import to the US.
