I'm outta' here.....

Postby lucky13 on Thu Jun 18, 2009 11:13 am

Is it rational to want to live in another country just so you can ride cooler bikes? Of course it is....

You don't have to move.. just drive up to Canada and get one. I've been thinking about selling my R6 and getting something different... maybe I'll take that road trip up north??

You go first and then tell me what I need to do to get it through customs and registered in Pennsylvania. I suck at stuff like that.

I'm sure it isn't too hard... I might have to look into this. My wife wants this bike just as bad as I do... she said if I could get one, she would start riding!

Maybe you're right and it isn't too hard. If you look into it, let me know because I'd definitely be interested.

I remember guys getting Suzuki Gammas and RZ500s registered way back in the day but it was not very easy back then.

Normally small bikes don't move in the U.S. market, but most dealers sold out of the re-designed Ninja 250 last year, so that may be changing. The real question is price -- if they could bring it in and sell if for around what the 250 Ninja costs, I think they'd do fine. If it's $5,000 or $6,000, 90% of the potential market will just buy a used 600 Supersport. I can't think of a mfg. that's taken more of a beating on "cult bikes" than Yamaha (SR500, SRX6, GTS, Vision, the list goes on).

…YSR50's, etc.

Is there some huge tariff that artificially boosts the price of those sub-250cc streetbikes in the US, or are they that proportionately expensive overseas as well? Wasn't sure if they were a better value in Japan & Europe, or those guys just have a hard-on for small displacement bikes compared to the US. (I'm sure a tiered license structure doesn't hurt UK sales)

I'd still like to see a Ninja 250 chassis w/ a H1 motor stuffed in there. The handling of a modern sportbike with a poop-your-pants powerband of an engine that's more prone to seizure than an epileptic at a rave. The best of both worlds.

Do they run $5k-6k overseas?! I can see them doing well in a few years tho if the price is right, key word price of course. I think once Fiat starts selling smaller vehicles in the states, with sucess, a tread will follow.

The YZF-R125 goes for around 3000 pounds in GB.....just under $5000. It makes 14.75hp and tops out at around 75mph.

I hate to pass on a good conspiracy theory but in this case it is more likely just because people in the U.S. just don't buy small-displacement street bikes.....

And all of a sudden I forgot about my current street bike project. Would it be wrong if my wife's street bike was faster than my street bike?

Hey Tonto, what do these things sell for up there in Canada, eh?

No. You'll crush her on the brakes and in the corners.

I'd rather have an RGV250 or a Honda NSR250. Even an Aprilia Cup bike than one of those 125's. I'm pretty sure that you can still get parts for the Aprilia at the local dealer. ---L*64
