Your tax dollars hard at work

Postby fireman_343 on Fri May 29, 2009 1:00 pm

Don't hate me because of this... but I lifted my Jeep at the fire dept! Yep.. asked if I could do it and the chief said as long as I can get it out of the fire house by the next morning, and as long as I can still respond to calls I can do it.
So, I tackled the task last weekend at work all by myself! Changed out all new springs, control arms, track bars, sway bar links, shocks, etc.. only broke one bolt... and it was the most important bolt too. The cam/caster bolt on the front lower control arm! I was able to get a new bolt on there, but wow it was a pain in the butt to take off all them bolts on a 11yr old Jeep that is in the rust belt!

The Jeep went up 4 inches and I installed my new mud terrain tires on it as well. Should be ready to hit some trails soon!

Talk about a project.. it was easy to do, but very time consuming! Working on the Jeep like this was a very good reminder why I like to work on motorcycles better!!!

Here are a few pic's of it.. Enjoy!

Boy does that bring back memories. I used to be into 4wheeling in a big way. You can appreciate my set-up. 1990 YJ, 3" Rancho Body lift, 6" superlift suspension lift c/w Ranch RS5000 shocks. 13" wide American Racing Rims holding 35" Mickey Thompson BaJa Belted bias Ply tires (siliconed Beads), air locker in the front ball, Ford 9" rear end, Warn 10,000LB winch front (attached by receiver hitch, so it could be relocated to the back) c/w roller fairlead. Fully snorkled. It was broken ALL THE TIME! I was the only guy I've ever known to get a Christmas card from my mechanic!
Now, instead of going bankrupt off roading, i choose the more civilized approach and am going bankrupt buying motorcycles!

SWEET.. yeah when I lived in North Carolina I use to take my Suzuki Samurai rock crawling.. .it was a blast!

When I moved back to Ohio, I sold my Samurai that had a V6, Dana 300, YJ Springs, SPOA, Toyota axles, 35" Boggers, etc.. and got another Sami last year.. It just had a 3" suspension lift, 3" body and 32's on it but I painted it OD Green like my old one was. Can you tell I like green?? HAHA
Anyway, I sold the Sami I just got because I couldn't drive it on the highway like I could with my old Sami with the V6... I thought I would try a Jeep and got the TJ I've got now. It is fun, and I've got more stuff planned for it!

My wife hates that I've got two expensive hobbies.. the Jeep and motorcycle racing.. both are very expensive but very fun!

Here are a few pic's of my old Sami's I owned...

So, since we all paid for you to do this does that mean we get to drive it? :P

I love the sticker- attach stuck jeep here! You had that thing built! Are those SuperSwamper Thornbirds you were running? They must have been RIDICULOUSLY loud on the highway. I know my mickey's were bad. With 35's on that Suk, you must have completely lost 5th gear!

No, those were SuperSwamper BOGGERS... and YES they were very loud on the street.. but sounded cool!
The V6 did quite well in the light framed Zuk and the Toyota axles were regeared, I could use 5th on the highway... but it sucked gas like crazy! I think the last time I checked it was getting around 7MPG?? So I didn't drive it much on the street

And I put that sticker on there for all the JEEP guys that think there JEEPs are king $hit and can't get stuck... I had to pull out a JEEP once and guess where it was attached to.. HAHAHA Plus a few of my friends when I was in the military thought it would be funny to put that sticker on there, so I did. I have nothing against Jeep (hell I own one) but I do not like the attitude that "most" jeep owners have.
