The CRF transformation has started ~!

Postby bark615 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 4:06 pm

It was finally time to start tearing the 100 down and making the transformation to supermini!

you're pulling ahead of me as far as bike prep :)

I wanted to get my wiring "jig" back from the guy I loaned it to (two years ago), but it won't help on the axle nuts anyway, since we have to drill through the corners like that.

brake shoes are ordered, but haven't arrived. Front tire is mounted on the rim, but I only took off the 19" wheel last night. Rear tire is in my basement, and the knobby is still on the rear rim.

I'm going to have to look around for pics of others' catch-can solutions.

On my end, axles are fully drilled and wired, fork oil has been changed, new brake shoes are on, new case cover installed, and my camera mount is all drilled up to accept safety wire :-)

As my wife said earlier, "I can tell its a motorcycle again."

I have to say though, I really love working on a mini. With the wheels and forks removed, I was able to pick the bike up off the stand by myself. That was never an option with the 600RR!

Now it's time for a clutch pack inspection then check the valve clearance.

Checked the valve clearances this morning.

Intake was looking good at .002, exhaust was .005 so I needed to make an adjustment there. Now exhaust is sitting pretty at .002.

Don't make them too tight!!
I keep mine at .004 intake and .004 exhaust
But, then again it isn't stock so I don't know what it calls for stock

The service manual calls for .002 so I just set them to that spec value.

Hopefully that works well for racing!
