Benefit race date set

Postby zedslead on Wed May 06, 2009 5:28 pm

The Harrison "Goes Full Throttle Against Leukemia"benefit date will be September 12.
The OYL is scheduled to race the following day so we hoped this would help out those who travel some distance. Also, friends and family that travel to the benefit may possibly stick around to watch us race the following day.

Many things need to be worked out yet but so far what we have is-$ 2.00 at the gate for spectators ,$ 10.00 at gate racers ,$ 1.50 per lap on go karts, to be run at lunch time.(Steve is charging a dollar per lap for the karts and eight bucks at the gate for racers)We tacked on two bucks for the fund to make it ten.I was thinking charge 1.50 a lap and 50 cents a lap goes to the fund.Thoughts?

We plan to sell T-shirts and would like to have a raffle and a 50/50 drawing and /or anything else we can come up with to make this fun for spectators and racers.

We are in the infancy stage but the ball is rolling. Ginny and I would love to hear any ideas you all may have.

Getting the word out will be huge, other clubs, Chuch Shorie and his pocketbikes etc....

Paul, I think it would be cool i we could do a 4 or 6 hr endurance race and end under the lights... I know, 6 hrs on a mini, im a bit crazy, but I think it would be fun.

Love the idea of a night endurance race. Do you think that would increase the cost due to the electricity use?

Paul - I work with a girl whose parents do a lot of fundraisers. They call around to local vendors and establishment to ask for donations and/or sponsorship for the event. Long story short, you wouldn't believe the amout of agreement they get. They end up with money, brand new TVs and refrigerators, etc. to give away. Might be something to think about to increase attendance in a raffle type thing where the prizes could go toward families who have been hit hard by a child's illness.

Paul,

Sounds good, can't wait. We need to start the PR press now with Q&S bike nights, hit the Pony on a few designated weekends as well as dealerships to hand out flyers, show bikes, etc. Contacting local media (Columbus Dispatch, The Other Paper, Columbus Monthly, etc) to bring them up to speed might not be a bad idea as well. I don't have much experience with this, but what about contacting AMA teams and/or riders to see if they would donate raffle items?

I'm sure that you and other members have done this already, but it would also be good to post this on other forums like Supermoto Junkie, WERA, SEMRA, etc.

Here to help out in any way possible to support the cause!

Thanks everyone, alot of good ideas .

We are working on a web site - when that's done we'd like to "go full throttle"I just want to have something we can refer people to so they know they are not being scammed....It's unfortunate but it happens.

I like the ideas -I just don't know how to go about reaching out to AMA race teams.Didn't we have a guy in the club who worked for Attack Kawi? I think his name was Paul something, nice guy, showed a real interest in Harrison.

Jordan- Ginny and I were thinking along the same lines as far as getting donations for a silent auction maybe even memorabelia from race teams...like the leathers Jamie Hacking wore in his crash at Barber,ha ha ,like he'd part with those...but you get the idea. I'll hit some of my Restaurants up for gift cert. to be auctioned as well.

At golfing benefits they get sponsers for the holes.I was thinking about corner sponsors,$100.00 a corner and you get your name on it. Plus the start finish line.Turn 1 Applebees ,Ricart finish line and so on .What are your thoughts?

Also we are looking for sponsors for the back of the shirts we are making.$100 gets your company on the back of the shirt, looking for about ten.

I'll let you know when the site is up and running.

That's Paul Finn. He doesn't work for Attack Kawi, but is well connected with them. Look for a PM with his contact info.

Okay, got an email from the Paul and Ginny Harrison... here is what was sent to me. I signed up to race, and ordered a few t-shirts!

Hello all.

As you know, our son, Harrison Ringel, continues to battle Leukemia, and he is winning! We are in the final four weeks of intense treatment, and though he is facing ongoing maintenance treatments for the next three years, he will soon be regaining his strength and training for his beloved motorcycle racing, and his 8th grade sports teams. We have undertaken, with great help from so many, a motorcycle benefit race, to raise money for the Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. That organization does such wonderful things to help families like our family, and this is our way of giving back. The big event will be Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Circleville Raceway Park.

We are soliciting donations to defray the cost of making T-shirts to commemorate this great event. Please know that we are hoping to get donations from various business, and in turn, will advertise for them on the back of the T-shirt. We are not asking you to donate personal funds, so many of you have helped us so much already, and we appreciate all you have done and continue to do for us. We are sending you the attached letter, hoping that you will forward it to businesses, employers, benefactors, and others who may be interested in assisting us in raising funds, in Harrison's name for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Also, our web site is up (though still in its creative stages) and on that web site, not only will we be registering racers and spectators for the race (trying to get an idea about numbers and T-shirt orders) we will identify all our sponsors. Remember, we are new at this, and it's coming together, though not completely finished. The mock up for the front of the T-shirt will soon be ready. The version we have reviewed is really cool!

Here's our web site: http://sites.google.com/site/harrisonbenefitrace/

Thanks in advance for helping us out by forwarding the attached letter to anyone who may be able to sponsor the event with a donation of $100, or more. If we have missed anyone on this E-mail, please feel free to forward it on our behalf!

You are the Best! We could not have gotten here without your help!

Paul & Ginny Ringel; Veronica, Brooke and Harrison

Dear Friends:
This has been a very difficult year for the Ringel family. When Harrison was diagnosed with
Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia November 21, 2008, we never imagined how harrowing this ride,
the ride of his life, would be. Through the support and help of so many, we have gotten to where
we are now. Harrison is finishing up the intense part of his treatment and has been in remission,
since right before Christmas. Thanks to so many friends, and as well so many organizations
dedicated to helping children and families like ours, we have endured the worst, and are now
looking forward!

We have received so much from so many, and have thought about how we can give back.
Especially helpful, with literature, educational opportunities and some financial assistance, is the
Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We have decided to give back, by
organizing a benefit race, in Harrison’s name to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In
addition to the motorcycle racing, we will have bicycle races by age group, go-kart rentals, fun
things for the kids, concessions, etc.

September 12, 2009, we will hold the first annual race, in Harrison’s name, at Circleville
Raceway Park in Circleville, Ohio. As part of our efforts, we are having event T-shirts made to
commemorate this special event, which will be pre-sold and sold at the event. To help defray the
cost of this endeavor, we are seeking sponsorship. For a $100 donation, your name and/or logo
will appear on the back of the T-Shirt. Time and space are limited, so please help us raise funds,
in the name of our son, for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by sending us a $100 check,
payable to “Harrison Benefit Race” and your company logo/business card, etc. and we will have
it placed on the T-shirt. Please note that only donations paid directly to the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society are tax deductible. Though all funds raised will benefit the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society, the “Harrison Benefit Race” donations are not tax deductible.
Thanks for supporting us, and helping us raise funds in Harrison’s name!

Sincerely,
Paul and Ginny Ringel

I just signed up myself.

Paul, put me down as a sponsor and I'll get a check off to you.

Also, I had Doug Polen sign four Wounded Duc T-shirts, so for you old-school Ducati fans -- letting the bidding begin!

Thanks Conrad for posting that up.
Mark very cool on the shirts AND the sponsoring.I tell people all the time "come out and watch us race you won't meet a better group of people anywere".

I spoke to Paul Finn last night ,thanks to Jordan,he is now also a sponsor along with Attack Kawasaki.
Paul said he will show the letter to other teams and try and get them signed up.He also said he has lots of stuff he can bring for the silent auction .
This thing is starting to grow some legs.

I wonder if I should make a fresh post so people are aware of the web site and they get registered and order there shirts.
As soon as we can we will post up a picture of the shirt .I think it's cool....just sayin.
